Local Knowledge
Receive a monthly newsletter designed to help beekeepers know what they and their bees should be doing each month of the year. Newsletters are sent only to members and are full of local knowledge, tips, and tricks from our members. Having local knowledge about beekeeping is key to being a successful beekeeper.
Access to Bees
Access to package bees for starting new colonies in the spring. Each year, the Jefferson County Beekeepers’ Association brings in several hundred packages of bees for its membership to purchase. The package bees include 3 pounds of bees and a mated queen in a convenient carrying cage.
Free Rentals
The club has 2 manual extractor kits that are available to its members to rent for free. These kits include the tools you need to successfully get honey from the comb and into a bucket for bottling. Without this equipment, harvesting honey is much harder. Bonus, you don’t have to buy and store the equipment all year.
Swarm Removal List
Members are able to add their name to the public facing swarm removal list. This list is often the first place the public goes to find a beekeeper who can remove a swarm of bees. If you want free bees, this is the list to be on and it is only available for members of the Jefferson County Beekeepers’ Association.
Cut Out List
The club has a separate list of beekeepers who can remove bees from structures. If this is of interest to you, it is a way you can turn your knowledge of bees into a source of income. It is not uncommon for home or business owners to pay $600+ to have bees removed from their home or building.
Being Part of the Club
There is something to be said about putting some skin in the game and being a contributing member of the club. The club uses membership funds to help bring in speakers every month and to provide door prizes and more to its guests. For nearly $1 a month, your membership patronage provides a lot.
Membership Details
Joining the club gives you a 1-year membership which renews automatically one year from joining. During the process, you’ll make an account and the email address used will be the club’s main point of contact for you to receive newsletters, so make sure that is accurate. You can log into your account and change your details and status through this website.
Individuals can join for $15 per year and families can join for $25 per year. Click the button below to choose which option fits your situation.
If you register for the beginner beekeeping class, you will automatically receive a year of membership for free.
